Many of you may have signed previous Animal Cruelty Petitions and may remember our last Canada wide Stop Animal Cruelty C-373 Petition which garnered 111,896 signatures!
To date, well over 150,000 sig’s have been presented in the House and yet the Government continues to ignore our wishes!
C-373 had the support of ALL NDP, most Liberals, Bloc and Green.
Only the Conservatives went against what in recent polls approx 90% of Canadians support and have been asking for, effective animal cruelty legislation!
After many letters to constituents stating the opposite, the Conservatives ALL voted for useless S-203 which we asked them NOT to support in lieu of effective C-373.
With our new Government back to work, it’s more important now than ever to let them know we’re not settling for a placebo Bill like S-203 and that we will continue to fight for effective legislation based on C-373 (now C-229)!
Again we were so close to passing these much needed changes after more than a century of wasted time and debates! Everytime an election is called or Parliament is prorogued, ALL Bills are dropped and we have no choice but to start over!
Please know that we and animals all across Canada appreciate your support on past petitions, but once again due these events in our Government, we need your help! Thousands more animals have recently suffered due to Parliaments inaction, when will it be enough!? Our voices have to be louder than ever to get these much needed changes so please help how you can!
Please print sign and circulate this petition! Gather as many signatures as you can and return to address on bottom by June 30/09! THANK YOU!
Can’t sign the paper petition? Then try the online version found here..
PLEASE NOTE! Paper and ink petitions are way more effective and carry much more weight in the House of Commons! This petition is in support of the legal paper petition so that our animal friends from around the world can also have their voices heard! Canadian residents, please be sure to print, sign and send in paper petition as well if at all possible!
THANK YOU ALL FOR CARING AND HAVING YOUR VOICES HEARD FOR ANIMALS
REMINDER!
There is a VERY IMPORTANT RALLY happening on Dec 17th!
9:30am – 12:00pm
Didsbury Courthouse
1611 – 15 Ave
Didsbury, AB
This is the last and final protest against Haskett!
This case has been going on for almost 2 1/2 yrs and Haskett will finally be sentenced.
His friend previously received probation and a slap for his part in Daisy-Duke’s death.
She was beaten w a shovel, had legs and mouth duct-taped, put in a bag, tied to a rope and towed around Didsbury until she fell off. A young girl found her, called the vet, and she was immediately euthanized. Haskett better get the max for this horrific death of the family dog, which sadly, will prob B a slap. I really wish we had better laws in place already!
We need EVERYONE to attend if possible on Wed Dec 17th in Didsbury!
We need to NOT let this dog be forgotten and show why we need these laws in place!
If people were actually punished for these terrible acts, perhaps they would be deterred, esp before they start on human crimes!
It’s goin to be cold, about -15, so dress warm and bring all your friends who agree that animal cruelty needs to be prevented w effective legislation! Please attend this very important last court date and have your voices heard! We need to make sure the Govt doesnt forget again- why we need animal cruelty laws that work!!
This will also be the official NEW petition launch, a variety of animal groups will be there and we hope you are 2!! We need a big rally 2 help spread awareness on the issue 2 the public, show the Govt we’re not giving up even tho they do, and at the same time, hopefully media will help us get the word out about the new petition, update people on what happened with the last Canada wide one, and why we need your help again!!
PLEASE sign these petitions and help gather sigs!!
PLEASE help spread the word, animals in Canada need your support more than ever!!
Go to facebook group for more info on latest animal cruelty stories, prov legislation, and more ways you can help make a difference to animals in Canada!

Thanx again!! Paula
Please help. We will continue to fight for effective legislation based on C-373!
Please help prevent another evil act like what happened to Daisy-Duke!
What was done to Daisey-Duke is absolutely disgusting! The men that were involved clearly have something wrong with them. If this act was done to a human, they would be given life sentences, no questions asked! They should be given the same treatment here! I don’t understand how someone coud be so cruel towards an animal.
Laws should definately be put in place to protect animals.
The Government doesn’t realize that this is only the first step. If people are getting away with these crimes, what’s going to stop them?
Thank you for supporting this issue!

PLEASE NOTE! The NEW Bill name is C-229! (Same as C-373) Please edit your letters accordingly! Thanx all!
Did you know that NWT and Nunavut dont have any animal protection laws in place? O Canada!? What the hell kind of country is this anyway?!

Thank U!!
MP Mark Holland, would be “Pleased” to present our Stop Animal Cruelty Petition! (He’s the 1 that clarified in the House that the last one was NOT supporting S-203 after the Conserv MP presenting tried 2 make it sound like it was.. media picked up on that as well, not good, Mark saved our ass’s! lol) Thanx again Mark for your years of hard work and continued dedication to changing the federal animal cruelty laws in Canada! We are happy to support these much needed changes!
OK good protests today in Didsbury and Vegreville! Keep up the great work guys!

Here’s a few newspaper 1’s on Daisy-Duke’s final rally– Haskett’s sentence
There’s way more, but U get the message!
Thanx so much to all media who cont 2 cover these animal cruelty/neglect, etc events, sad but thanx 4 helping us raise much needed awareness!
It’s so important for Cdn’s 2 know whats goin on here w animals!
The amount of media stories about animal cruelty/neglect in Canada alone, every week/day sometimes is mind-blowing, and the Govt is wasting so much time arguing about nothing while animals cont 2 suffer and people cont 2 go unpunished! Argh! And the sad reality is, most animal cruelty we never hear about, they are often discarded, hidden, forgotten about, but we can’t let these acts cont 2 go unpunished, esp as they often move on to humans! What will it take 2 get the Govt 2 listen, how many more animals must suffer, while every1 in Canada is asking 4 these changes, along w every animal welfare, protection, vet, U name it, group supporting and advising them how this could help and why?!
Please sign the Petition and let the MP’s know that we need these changes now! Canada is sposed 2 be a role model, not a disgrace! Remember!?
Get Ur shit 2gether and pass some animal cruelty legislation that works! (and maybe revamp the whole justice system/laws 2 atually work would be cool!)Thanx!
In the meantime, I’ll cont to post media stories, etc, all I can do for now, please cont 2 help us get the word out everyone! Thank you for supporting effective animal cruelty legislation!! Please cont 2 have your voices heard! With petition sigs, letters, emails, calls 2 MP’s (esp conserv!), rallys, courthouse protests, letters 2 editors, spreading the word! Whatever it takes 2 let the Govt know that its time 2 change our useless laws to help deter and punish people like this. We need all of your support!

Great job at the protest all who could make it in that weather! Your voices were heard loud and clear! Now, let’s get the word out about how 2 help change these useless laws..! lol THANK YOU!
I am alerting everyone to the most recent developments in the case concerning the Northern Dogs recently found starved and frozen to the ground:
Yet another case of failure to prosecute. The recent case of the 3 dogs found starved and frozen to death in Tuktoyaktuk is another example why An Animal Protection Act is absoultely necessary in the Canadian North. These dogs were found frozen to the ground, discovered by the local dog catcher Chuck Gruben. The RCMP Officer called in to investigate has decided not to press charges under teh Criminal Code of Canada after having spoken with the owner of these dogs who claimed that the dogs were already sick and nothing could be done for them. When question by CBC reporters as to whether a vet had been called in to confirm that indeed these animals had succumbed to their illness, the RCMP Officer stated no. The officer also stated that under the Criminal Code that evidence must be prove that these animals were neglected in order to press charges, he did admit that the dead dogs and three surviving dogs looked pretty skinny.
Note that one caller to CBC North stated that a number of the sled dogs held at the Randa Boogie Pokiaks yard had broken loose and had entered her yard. One of these dogs attacked and literally ate her puppy before her husband could chase them away. Is this not an indication that these dogs were starving?
I was invited to do a personal interview with CBC North this morning, topic of concern is this most recent case of wilful neglect and my lobbying of the Northwest Territories Government for an Animal Protection Act. I was more than happy to respond, I was allowed to hear the interview with the investigating RCMP officer prior to my interview. The excuses given by the owner which were accepted by this officer, influencing his decision no to press charges, are unacceptable to myself and many others. Pokiak made a concious decision, he wilfully failed to provide proper shelter in sub-zero temperatures and while he claimed to be feeding these animals, reports to the contrary were made by many witnesses. Evidence lay in the starved carcasses frozen to the ground and the testimonies of witnesses that came forward to prove that this is an indictable offense.
In my view failing to prosecute this individual is sending a negative statement that there is no accountability for ones actions, that animal cruelty is condoned, and accepted, that one is free to do whatever they choose to with consequence. The the current Animal Cruelty Legislation as contained in the Criminal Code of Canada only applies to particular areas of the country. The Criminal Code and this Animal Cruelty Legislation applies to everyone anywher in Canada.
If you are as outraged as what I am please sign my peition “An Appeal for the Voiceless” and send a clear, precise and pointed message to the Government of the Northwest Territories that not only are the offenders of these horrendous acts accountable for their actions, but that the government is also accountable for their inaction.
I intend to keep up this fight and with you help enough pressure can be put on the Legislature for them to act..that is my hope.
Please go to :
http://www.thepetitionsite.com/2/an-appeal-for-the-voiceless
to sign my petition if you have not already done so.
While this petition denotes 1000 signatures I am urging everyone to surpass that number, to pass this case on to contacts, to make everyone aware of what is going on urging all to take positive action to put an end to this madness and suffering.
To view the CBC article on this case go to:http://www.cbc.ca/canada/north/story/2008/12/24/dead-dogs.html
People don’t realize, until it’s too late, late that animals, especially pets, ie. dogs and cats are attracted to car’s leaked ethanol glycol antifreeze, which is lethal and toxic. If more people would use Propylene Glycol, which is not toxic nor lethal, more pets would not experience the excruciatingly painful death.
animals have feelings too.
They deserve to live happy.
They deserve rights just like us.
They are more then animals.
I’ve rescued 2 horses over the last couple years and if I had more room I know that I would have brought more home…there are far more animals out there than we are even aware of that are being subjected to neglect and abuse. If this bill is to pass then maybe it would set a desperately needed example in our country! We need to stop this ongoing issue NOW, it’s time to speak out, it’s time to contact our MLA’s and gov’t! This weekend in Fredericton NB, there is an SPEAK OUT, STOP ANIMAL CRUELTY being held at City Hall – if you are an animal lover or feel that this is an issue that needs to be dealt with NOW – come out and support this great cause!
We need a legal system in place to protect the rights of animals and to prosecute those that have done harm to any animal. I own rats, fish and cats and I would protect them with my life. They deserve to have a government protect them as well. They cannot fight so we are here to fight. I know I am ready to fight for their causes…are you?
Here’s an animal cruelty update and ways 2 help various related issues!
BILL C-373- An Act to amend the criminal code- Cruelty to animals, is now called C-229 and has been re-introduced by MP Mark Holland.
We need your voices more than ever to help show the Gov’t that animals matter 2 and we need these changes to help put an end to their abuse!
Please write LETTERS, call and email your MP asking them to support Bill C-229! Here’s a great link to see how to easily do this- please take a moment and do so! Every letter REALLY does make a difference! http://petspeakout.wordpress.com/speak-out-write-to-your-mp/
Please help gather petition sig’s! They are a useful tool and our last petition did have an impact in the House, let’s try to double those 150,000 sig’s!
If you’re over 18 and a Cdn, please print off, sign, gather sigs and return this legal paper version which Mark Holland will present in the House..
http://stopanimalcrueltyincanada.files.wordpress.com/2008/12/2009-animal-cruelty-petition2.pdf
Or/also, if your under 18 or from another country.. please sign this identical online version which we will be printing and inc as support, (and no worries, any private info, email, address, etc is kept private, not viewable, and only required info will be printed off).. http://www.thepetitionsite.com/1/stopanimalcrueltyincanada
Remember letters to editors help also! Any way you can help raise positive attention and educate the public and Gov’t about how these amendments would result in much needed changes for animals and people is a huge help!
There is an upcoming rally in Fredericton, NB on Feb 14th @ 1 PM at the City Hall (also protesting the slap the guy got who hammered his puppy-mill dogs to death).. Please attend if possible!! More info here.. http://petspeakout.wordpress.com/
Please cont to spread the word and pass this info on! We need a huge show of support! Thanx for helping to stop animal cruelty in Canada by supporting effective animal cruelty legislation!

NOTE about petitions! The federal one (top) one can be signed by any Cdn, supporting changes to federal laws, it is being presented in House of Commons in Ottawa. There’s a link in there to support an online version if you are not Canadian and you’d like to have your voice heard (comments there are nice 2!). Petitions should really only be signed by the people in the area it pertains to. You don’t have to be 18 to sign paper version.
Please make sure petitions you sign meet the following guidelines, http://www.parl.gc.ca/information/about/process/house/Petitions/petitionsPG2008__Pg02-e.htm
(on petitions, the info sections will tell you by who it is addressed to, whether you could legally sign it or not. Ex. My sig from AB won’t help a BC petition for amendments to their Prov laws there, it applies to that area and constituents and must state who it address’ and the residents and therefore who it would pertain to. Nor will my sig count towards federal law changes if the petition is addressed to SK Parliament, says we the residents of SK and is being presented there.)
Online petitions can’t be presented alone in the House of Commons, but can sometimes be taken into consideration with presentation of legal paper petition (as mentioned with our last presentation), they aren’t inc in final sig tally by clerk of petitions, but can still sometimes have abit of impact.
That’s why our online version is identical to paper version (both are in that same link), sigs can be verified and will be printed and we’re hoping that people from around the world will sign that one as support and it gets mentioned if enough sig’s!?
OK thats all I have for now! (Sorry if I missed anything, so behind!)
Please keep spreading the word! We need all your support to get these badly needed changes for animals in Canada! Thanx all!

CANADIAN ACTION REQUESTED!
“HON. MARLENE JENNINGS, MP for NDG-LACHINE, QUEBEC
” FIGHTING FOR ANIMAL RIGHTS IN CANADA”
Please read this important message and cross post to all your contacts in Canada.
Thank You
Carol Waterman
Animal Activist & Volunteer,
Montreal, Qc. Canada
COPIED FROM THE MONTREAL SUBURBAN, DATED APRIL 15, 2009
Hon. Marlene Jennings, Member of Parliament for Notre Dame de Grace-Lachine, is actively supporting national campaigns aiming to make Canada a world leader in animal welfare protection.
Ms Jennings is pushing the government to lead the charge towards the creation of a Universal Declaration on Animal Welfare (UDAW) at the United Nations. “There is currently no global recognition of the importance of animal welfare” said Ms. Jennings. “The adoption of a UDAW would create a moral imperative for governments to act to protect the welfare of animals.” Ms. Jennings says she hopes to see action by Canada’s foreign affairs minister on this file in the coming months.
Some of the world’s leading animal protection organizations – including the World Society for the Protection of Animals and, here in Canada, the Canadian Federation of Humane Societies, the Ontario SPCA, the BC SPCA , the SPCA de l’Estrie and many others – have signalled their strong support for the development of a Universal Declaration on Animal Welfare (UDAW).
Ms. Jennings is also fighting to update Canadian animal welfare legislation that she lags far behind the rest of the world. “The range of indictable offenses against animals has barely changed since the original 1892 Criminal Code,” says Ms. Jennings. “It’s unacceptable, and it’s embarrassing. We need to bring our Criminal Code out of the dark ages and into the 21st century.” Many animal welfare groups are critical of Canada’s current laws that they say lead to a staggeringly low number of charges and convictions.
TWO PETITIONS supporting the adoption of a UDAW and effective Canadian legislation can be found on Marlene Jennings’ web-site at http://www.marlenejennings.parl.gc.ca

Message from Nicole Joncas/Teja’s Animal Refuge
Subject: PETITIONS AGAINST ANIMAL CRUELTY
I spoke this morning to Liam McGenty in Ottawa regarding the creation of a Universal Declaration on Animal Welfare at the United Nations.
Mr. McGenty said that the collection of names on the petitions below in support of UDAW is most important at this time.
Please everyone, this is our big moment to help this pass. We’ve never been this close to seeing changes in the archaic Criminal Code. Nothing in animal protection has changed since 1882. It’s time the Code is brought into the 21st century.
Thanking you all in advance,
Yours in rescue,
Nicole

It must be stopped cruelty of the animals
we need legislation to help these poor animals, no one has a right to abuse them, people who do should be punished .
